Fashion Designer

Fashion Designers have the potential to become private entrepreneurs, buyers or designers for the mass market, including chain stores. Other career opportunities include clothing designers (mass production and haute couture), fashion illustrators, costume designers, pattern cutters, pattern graders or supervisors.


Available Qualifications:

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
National Diploma: Fashion or suitable recognition of prior learning (RPL).  An aggregate of at least 65% for the National Diploma is required in order to be considered for admission to the Bachelor of Technology: Fashion.  A 65% pass mark in Theory of Clothing III and Applied Clothing Technology III is mandatory.

NSC Requirements:

  • Admissions Point Score of 32.
  • Minimum NSC requirements for degree entry must be met.
  • English, Afrikaans or isiXhosa (home language or first additional language) on at least level 3 (40–49%).
  • NSC achievement rating on at least level 2 (30–39%) for Mathematics or level 3 (40-49%) for Mathematical Literacy.
  • Applicants with an Admissions Points Score between 22 and 31 may be referred to write the Access Assessment Test before a decision is made on whether or not to admit the applicant to the course.

Senior Certificate:

  • School Performance Score 27.
  • Senior Certificate with matriculation endorsement.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Academic qualification (e.g. Honours degree, professional four-year or B Tech degree) or RPL.
  • A suitably-motivated project outline with evidence of the applicant's area of expertise must accompany the application.  An appointment must be made to discuss the veracity of the motivation in an interview with the Programme Leader.
  • All applications must be approved by the Head of Department before registration can take place.
  • A Policies and Procedures document, which clarifies the frame work of and rules for postgraduate study, is available from the Faculty Office on request.
