Teacher

A teacher works with students and helps them learn concepts in subjects such as science, mathematics, language arts, social studies, art and music. They then help them apply these concepts. Teachers work in pre-primary schools, primary schools and high schools/secondary schools. Teachers work in either private schools or public schools.


Available Qualifications:

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR CURRENT GRADE 12 LEARNERS:

  • Admission Points Score of 34.
  • Minimum statutory NSC requirements for degree entry must be met.
  • English (Home Language or First Additional Language) AND Afrikaans or isiXhosa (Home Language or First Additional Language) on at least level 3 (40– 49%).
  • NSC achievement rating of at least 2 (30–39%) for Mathematics or 4 (50–59%) for Mathematical Literacy.
  • Applicants with an Admission Points Score between 26 and 33 may be referred to write the Access Assessment Battery before a decision is made on whether or not to admit the applicant to the course.

  • Matriculation exemption/endorsement or Senior Certificate with three HG subjects (languages count for one HG subject).

    • A teaching method for a FET school subject should follow an appropriate academic field of study at second year level.
    • A candidate with one second year level and 1 first year level can also follow another appropriate teaching method in a learning area for the GET:SP phase.
