She contributes to shaping the future of teacher education in South Africa, preparing educators to meet the country’s complex educational needs. She blends academic excellence with a deep commitment to humanising pedagogy that affirms the value and lived experiences of students and teachers alike.
An accomplished scholar in pedagogy and curriculum development, Prof Sathorar holds a PhD in Critical Pedagogy and an MBA (cum laude) from Nelson Mandela University, reflecting her dual commitment to academic excellence and strategic educational leadership.
Prior to her appointment as Executive Dean in 2024, she held senior roles within the faculty, contributing to curriculum review processes, programme accreditation, and institutional committees that shape educational quality and relevance. Her research spans critical pedagogy, humanising pedagogy, teacher education, inclusive assessment, and the intersections of higher education with social justice. The Faculty of Education engages in strong partnerships with schools, communities and government to foster learning environments where all learners thrive.
Prof Sathorar’s contributions to educational excellence have been recognised both within the university and across the broader academic community. Under her guidance the Faculty of Education actively celebrates outstanding contributions and achievements by staff and students through its Faculty Achiever Awards – an initiative that underscores her commitment to a culture of distinction and support.
