DVC, Prof André Keet led the Nelson Mandela University delegation in talks with the University of Nairobi to formalize and strengthen the friendship between the two institutions.

A framework is in place to collaborate in key strategic areas such as research partnerships and joint projects. The University of Nairobi is a major partner in realizing the Nelson Mandela Univesity's African Footprint.

Another Alumni event took place in Nairobi, Kenya on 1 July 2022 with more than 30 alumni in attendance. Our institutional records reflect that 340 qualifications have been conferred on alumni from Kenya and 45 of those qualifications are doctorates.

Alumni supported the establishment of a formal alumni chapter in Kenya. Prof Keet, Dr Webb and 2014 alumni award recipient Dr Hanningtone Gaya, addressed the group.

“Our presence in Kenya is recognition of the leading role of higher education institutions in the country and the role our alumni can play in helping us develop linkages and networks. Our initiative to expand our African footprint has been conceptualised around Nelson Mandela’s footsteps as he travelled the continent from the year 1962 seeking support for the liberation of South Africa.” said DVC Prof Keet.
