#MaskUpMandela: Donate material for masks

19/05/2020

As the #MaskUpMandela movement gains momentum as part of a collective national drive to change behaviour and save lives, the University is seeking material donations to make masks.

Any material suitable for the making of reusable cloth masks is much needed and will be welcomed.

It can be new material, elastic, cotton or used materials like bed sheets, pillow cases, t-shirts and other clothing that can be up-cycled and turned into masks.

With a population of close to 60 million people, the need for masks as part of the prevention measures is urgent.

Your donation will be handed over to volunteers, who are sewing masks from their homes for those who do not have the access or financial means to masks. A team at the University is working with established NGOs and other credible organisations to facilitate the distribution of masks.

If you have a donation, please email cm@mandela.ac.za with your name, contact number and details of your donation, so that arrangements can be made as to delivery or collection of your donation.

If you live in George and have a permit, you are encouraged to drop off your donations at the George Campus gate, or contact Milisa Piko at Milisa.piko@mandela.ac.za
