Importance of vaccination follow-up and booster doses

31/01/2022

Staff, students and members of the public are encouraged to come to the University’s Vaccination Centre on North Campus for follow-up doses and/or booster doses.

Students can also have their vaccination at all campus clinics in Gqeberha on a daily basis from 11h00 until 15h00.

Recent figures show that 73% of 3488 permanent and contract staff members have been fully vaccinated.

Only 12% of staff over 60 have, however, taken booster (that is 3rd Pfizer; 2nd J&J) shots.

Booster shots:

  • Individuals qualify for a booster six months after receiving the second Pfizer shot
  • Or two months after receiving your single J&J shot.
  • 12year olds are eligible for a second dose (42days after the 1st dose)
  • The booster shot is also available to those who have suppressed immune systems as supported by a medical doctor.

Vaccinations:

Anyone aged 12 and above is welcome to simply arrive at the Centre.

Stay safe:

  • Continue with wearing masks
  • Practise social distancing
  • Wash your hands and sanitise
  • Ensure adequate ventilation in venues
  • Continue to use the online self-screening tool.

The Centre is open as follows:

  • Monday to Thursdays from 8.30am to 3pm, and
  • Fridays from 8.30am to 2pm
  • Closed weekends

Please bring your:

  • ID
  • Staff or student card
  • Vaccination card if you have had previous shots
