The University is joining the national vaccination rollout programme from today (Monday, 14 June 2021), inclusive of its own COVID-19 management and vaccination plans to support staff and students.

Mandela staff and spouses who form part of Phase 2 of the national rollout programme (the 60-plus group) were informed by the University on Friday of the opportunity to be vaccinated on its North Campus in Gqeberha.

George Campus is still awaiting its final accreditation approval from the Western Cape Department of Health before it can also support the national rollout programme.

The University has been working with the provincial Department of Health in its COVID-19 mitigation strategy and vaccination rollout plan.

The start of the University’s vaccine rollout coincides with the official opening of the 10 vaccination stations at the University’s COVID-19 Centre, on North Campus, in Gqeberha.

The University is also in agreement with the ECDoH to serve as a public vaccination site for members of the Summerstrand community, who reside within a 5km radius, also aged 60 and above.

“Mandela University is pleased to be able to serve as a vaccination site for our staff, as well as contribute to the national vaccination programme as a public site,” said Vice-Chancellor, Prof Sibongile Muthwa.

“This aligns well with the University’s ongoing externally focused efforts, in collaboration with provincial government, private sector and civil society organisations, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and strengthens our positioning as an engaged institution in the service of society.”

In order to be allowed access to the vaccination area, those making use of the vaccination service have to ensure that they:

• Are already registered on the Electronic Vaccine Data System (EDVS)  https://vaccine.enroll.health.gov.za/#/
• Received a booking date and time slot
• Re-register, if they have registered, but have not yet received feedback
• Bring along the voucher issued to them
• Bring along their identity document.
