New Meal Booking System Launched

A new online meal booking system as part of the University’s drive to improve the safety of students while on campus during the COVID-19 pandemic, will be launched on some Port Elizabeth campuses today.

Safety, Convenience

The new system, one of many developed by ICT Services to counter the safety challenges posed by the virus, will also offer students convenience and ultimately, a more efficient and effective catering system for the University’s student population.

Students will now have the ability to:

  • View the lunch-time menu a week in advance
  • Order their meals and other tasty extras for collection or delivery at set times and destinations
  • Pay using their pre-loaded MMS Meals system, Intellimali card on delivery or collection, by transferring funds on their own student card or debit card on delivery or collection.

Collection and Delivery

The booking system also offers the opportunity for collection or delivery, so as to avoid the usual challenge of large numbers of students queuing to be served in the dining halls.

At present only one kitchen will be managing the online orders which will be North Campus’s Hector Pietersen Residence Cafeteria. to support the students who have returned to campus under the Lockdown Level 3 restrictions. Bookings can also only be made a day in advance and before 11am daily for the same day delivery.

The new system will be expanded to other campuses and George Campus as soon as we are satisfied with the system.

In the interim, to meet the needs of students based elsewhere, collection and delivery points and times have been arranged.  These are included in the new online system, which replaces the temporary WhatsApp booking system that worked on a similar system in assisting returning students to campus.
