Return to Work Guidelines for 2022

08/12/2021

As 2021 draws to a close, and we prepare to go on leave and spend quality time with our loved ones, I wish to thank the leadership and staff of Nelson Mandela University for the tenacity and resilience displayed despite the challenges of the impact of  COVID-19.

With the latest uncertainty around the new Omicron variant and a 4th wave looming, it is important to continue taking the necessary precautions to protect ourselves and those around us.

As we firm up our staffing requirements for 2022, line leaders, specifically those within support departments, are to consider the operational requirements and priorities of the academic programme, since this take precedence.

The University supports a hybrid working approach where jobs allow for this and for staff to work remotely where it is possible to limit on-site presence and the risk of spreading the virus.

Those staff who do return to campus in the New Year must follow a staggered / rotational approach and observe health and safety protocols at all times.

As in the past, Nelson Mandela University will follow the same cautious and controlled approach to preparing for 2022.

To this end, it has compiled critical process information to assist you in formalising the Return to Work Directorate / Faculty Plan (Annexure A).

Return to Work Process for Staff

Once these decisions have been reached, please be reminded of the necessary processes to follow:

  • Line manager to inform and supply their dedicated HR Service Partner with details of who is returning to work
  • All employees are encouraged to be vaccinated.
  • Staff members must complete the compulsory online COVID-19 prevention measures training
  • Line managers must contact she@mandela.ac.za  to arrange for the collection of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for their staff members
  • All staff are encouraged to use the online screening tool and departmental (workstation) screening tool.
  • Guidelines and protocols regarding COVID-19 to be strictly adhered to.

We thank you for your support in all our efforts to keep each other safe, and wish you and your loved ones a happy and joyous festive season.
