Update: Provision of Data to Students for Online Learning

12/05/2020

To date a total of 27 766 students subscribing to the major Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) have received data bundles that enable them to participate in online learning during the lockdown period.

While some MNOs took longer than expected in delivering the data bundles and some teething problems were initially encountered, all successful activations should now reflect in the data balances on the provisioned sim cards.

Unfortunately, some of the numbers submitted to MNOs were rejected for a variety of reasons.

In particular, Telkom flagged some numbers as being ineligible to participate in this scheme. This is a result of these Telkom sims primarily roaming other networks such as Vodacom. The students impacted by this network restriction have been emailed separately to identify potential alternatives to enable them to benefit from this data opportunity.

In order to streamline queries going forward, students are requested to use an online form to register their query. This new system is aimed at delivering a quicker turnaround time to any challenges experienced.

Any student who has still not received the mobile data should fill in the online form at https://www.mandela.ac.za/mobiledataquery by Thursday, 14 May so that this can be fast-tracked. We wish to ensure that all queries are resolved speedily.

In addition, please note that the Frequently Asked Questions, to be found on the same page, have been updated in response to many of the queries received.

Please make sure that you read the Guidelines for Data Management to get the most out of your allocated data.
