Gaining experience

Lulama Zweni, 59, is very happy working at the University’s Occupational Health Services as she feels that she is gaining lots of experience, especially in this time of the pandemic.

She joined the University as an occupational health nurse in February this year after many years of working as a health professional in the industrial environment.

“As we are very busy, I am learning more and more,” she says.

Apart from her role at the Screening Centre, she is continuing with the department’s usual primary health care for staff.

“I enjoy working with people and can help them with their anxieties and their conduct with their families and transport usage.

“I try my best. I feel good when I can see that they are listening and benefitting from my input as a nurse,” says Lulama.

While she and the rest of the team see many people, Lulama she says she feels safe as they are well-protected since their facilities and personal protective equipment (clothing and shields) complies with COVID-19 safety regulations.
