Wood Technologist

Wood Technologists are trained to function as line managers in saw mills or other timber processing plants. They apply practical and academic knowledge of timber and timber processing technology to the process of converting raw timber to saleable products.


Available Qualifications:

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

A relevant 360-credit Diploma in Wood Technology or an equivalent qualification. Although not a requirement, it is regarded as desirable that an applicant has completed at least two years' applicable practical service after having graduated. Candidates will only be considered if their average pass mark for the diploma is at least 60%.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR CURRENT GRADE 12 LEARNERS
Diploma:

  • Minimum NSC statutory requirements for diploma entry must be met.
  • An applicant with NSC Grade 12 Mathematics or Technical Mathematics requires a minimum Applicant Score of 330.
  • An applicant with NSC Grade 12 Mathematical Literacy requires a minimum Applicant Score of 345.
  • NSC achievement rating of at least 40% for Mathematics or Technical Mathematics or 60% for Mathematical Literacy. If an applicant has Mathematical Literacy instead of Mathematics, he/she will be placed in an associated extended qualification.
  • NSC achievement rating of at least 40% for Physical Sciences or Technical Science
