Building Project Managers use their knowledge of all aspects of building and construction to plan and oversee building projects and advise architects, engineers, and quantity surveyors, as well as serving as liaison between architects and building contractors.
For admission to this programme applicants must be employed in the field of Human Settlement Development or a related field as practitioners for a minimum of one-year (demonstrated by submission of a detailed Curriculum Vitae and Proof of Employment) + hold an NQF Level 4 certificate. Applicants who do not meet the direct admission requirements are required to demonstrate to the satisfaction of the University that they have a qualification plus suitable experiential- or work-based learning, which has taken the applicant to an equivalent of the entry level of the qualification specified above. Such candidates may be considered for admission through the Recognition of Prior Learning route after assessment via a Portfolio of Evidence of the prior learning been done. Applicants who, after such assessment, are deemed to have sufficient potential but need further academic development, may be required to broaden their curriculum by enrolling for preliminary modules prior to admission or parallel modules after admission. This would be done according to the Nelson Mandela University Recognition of Prior Learning Policy.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Candidates shall be admitted to the study for the qualification of Doctor of Philosophy in Construction Economics only if they hold the qualification of Bachelor of Science Honours in Quantity Surveying with seven years’ appropriate postgraduate practical experience, or if they hold the qualification of Master of Science in Construction Economics, or if they hold a Master’s qualification in a related discipline.
