Syllabus

 PURPOSE

The overall module objective is to provide students with a broad perspective of the fundamentals of Corporate Financial Planning by referring to the key corporate financial planning areas namely Employee Benefits, Health Care and Business Assurance.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Employee Benefits
• Understand and explain the differences between pension and provident funds.
• Identify the various types of pension and provident funds.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the various benefits provided within a pension or provident fund.
• Understand and discuss the regulations governing the retirement fund industry.
• Demonstrate an understanding of preservation funds.
• Demonstrate insight into the major developments and trends influencing the retirement fund industry.
• Understand and discuss the role of the Pension Funds Adjudicator and the procedures to lodge a complaint.
Health Care
• Understand and explain the development of the health care sector in SA.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the different types of medical schemes.
• Understand and discuss the benefit design of various medical schemes.
• Understand and discuss the Medical Schemes Act and regulations governing the Health Care industry.
• Understand and explain other regulatory issues in terms of the Medical Schemes Act.
• Discuss other health-related products.
• Demonstrate insight into developments affecting the health care industry.
• Understand and discuss the health care planning process.
Business Assurance
• Understand and explain the various business entities.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the basics of partnership insurance and buy and sell agreements.
• Understand what is meant by company-owned policies and demonstrate insight as to when they should be taken out.
• Understand and discuss the basics of deferred compensation policies.
• Understand what key person insurance is and demonstrate insight as to when it is required.
