Syllabus

PURPOSE

To promote independent research and the ability to write a coherent research report which complies with generally accepted editorial standards for academic writing.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Students will be able to:
• formulate a research problem and/or hypothesis and break it down into research questions and objectives;
• identify and delimit a relevant research area based on the research problem;
• to conduct a literature study in order to contextualise the research problem/hypothesis, research questions and objectives to provide a theoretical framework for a research design;
• to write a literature review in a formal academic style, structure the material in a logical fashion and use appropriate referencing techniques;
• to obtain and analyse quantitative or qualitative data in order to address the research questions and objectives in line with the research design and implementing appropriate research methodology and data-gathering techniques;
• or, alternatively, to extend the literature review to include a critical analysis of existing ideas and theories, gaining insights, drawing conclusions and making recommendations that address or illuminate the research problem;
• to write and present a research report in the appropriate format and academic style.

• The economic data capturing, analysis and presentation chapter(s).
• A concluding chapter.
• A bibliography.
