Syllabus

PURPOSE

To gain insight into the environment of purchasing management, materials and logistics management, systems and applications and to be able to compile purchasing and logistics strategy plans.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

• Critical and coherent understanding and application of the underlying principles of purchasing, materials and logistics management and their environments are demonstrated.
• Knowledge and insight into the management and systems is demonstrated.
• Application and integration of management skills applicable to assignment writing and putting all the concepts together in the formulation of purchasing, materials and logistics strategic plans.

• Principles of purchasing and logistics management.
• Analysing the purchasing and logistics supply chain environment.
• Purchasing/logistics decision-making.
• Purchasing/logistics procedures, systems and technology.
• Value analysis and the management tasks of purchasing/logistics.
• Understanding suppliers’ purchasing strategies and policies.
• Gaining insight into facets of inventory management, supply chain management in the context of purchasing and logistics management.
• Apply and integrate purchasing/logistics management skills to the industry.
