From Glenn’s Reflections
“The water pilgrimage was a deeply moving experience
for me. I don’t quite think I can shake off this feeling of,
somehow, being reduced to some microscopic being on
this planet in relation to the size of the problems … as a
result of our recklessness and of our neglect of systems
that are supposed to ensure that we function efficiently
in our management of our waste, especially our human
waste, and our plastic pollution. And it just makes me
want to do every little bit that I can to ensure that I
contribute somehow to a sustainable ecosystem, a
sustainable planet, a sustainable ocean system and
clean beach … if there is light at the end of the tunnel
for me, the lighthouse at Cape Recife … was also quite
moving … I like the permanence of the lighthouse, the
fact that it has withstood so many storms, that there
are so many back-up systems to ensure its operation
and that the core function of it is actually so significant
in navigating the oceans. I think of it as a metaphor, for
each one of us trying to educate others and change and
adapt our own lives.”
