"We have held very constructive discussions with Professor Sibongile Muthwa, Vice-Chancellor of Nelson Mandela University, South Africa on collaboration in research, student exchange, joint training and others”. Barnabas Nawangwe  Vice Chancellor, Makerere University, Uganda.

An Alumni event was also held in Kampala, Uganda on 29 June 2022. More than 60 alumni and friends attended the event. Prof Muthwa and the SA High Commissioner to Uganda, her excellency Ms Lulu Xingwana addressed the group. Several universities sent representatives as well.  Former Mandela University colleagues Prof and Mrs Kakembo also attended the event. The Uganda Alumni Chapter and the Alumni Relations Office co-hosted the event which was fully sponsored by alumni. Our institutional records reflect that 272 qualifications have been conferred on alumni from Uganda and a record 51 (or 19%) of those qualifications are doctorates.

“Our doctoral graduates have also been at the forefront in driving the Uganda chapter and engaging with Mandela University. The Ugandan alumni chapter model is unique and commendable. Another unique characteristic of the Uganda Chapter is the special relationship it has with the South African High Commission in Uganda.” said Prof Muthwa.
