Call to remain vigilant as COVID-19 student numbers rise

01/04/2021

As we prepare to enjoy Easter weekend, please continue to remain vigilant in practicing all prevention measures against the transmission of COVID-19.

This appeal comes as more young people are contracting the virus, including students, as captured in today’s Daily Maverick story https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/article/2021-03-31-third-wave-warning-after-55-university-of-pretoria-students-test-positive-for-covid-19/

Higher Health has also sent out an urgent request to all institutions of higher education, appealing for vigilance (see attachment) in the wake of cluster outbreaks and the new more transmissible variant.

As outlined earlier this week, there have been no reported COVID-19 cases at either the Gqeberha or George campuses for more than a month. Let each of us play our part in keeping it this way by practising all COVID-19 prevention measures and avoiding crowds.

Be part of the solution. It is in your hands!
