SUMMARY OF KEY POINTS MADE DURING B/A DISCUSSION
o Elements of institutional culture:
A scientific study could collect multiple views on what the focus areas of institutional culture could be. Key elements of
institutional culture we focus on include: the advocacy and centralization, the active promotion of social justice, respect
for diversity and equality, integrated talent stewardship strategies to retain and develop socially diverse students and staff,
staff morale through engagement and communication, leadership skills for line managers to cultivate inclusive environ-
ments, language policy, African identity of NMU, parity of esteem of multi campus, digital transformation in context of
intensifying the humanising capacity of our work, culture of responsiveness in addressing these concerns. The work done
so far has included many voices and consultations. Lesson: In terms of ICEP, consultation with students was a weak area.
Are students forming part of institutional committees inside faculties, post-FeesMustFall phase? Centrality of student
voice / student consultations. How can stakeholder communities give input into our institutional culture?
o Values:
Values can be the ‘glue’ that can bind us all together regardless of which campus we sit. How can we make our values
come alive? We can launch our values / live our values / entrench our values. Values should be demonstrated in a
standard way regardless of location, function, or academic discipline.
o Transformation implementation, monitoring, and evaluation, measurement:
