TRANSFORMATION GOAL 4: Ensure the Improvement of Holistic Student
Support (Academic, Psychosocial, Financial, Infrastructure) to Enable Increased
Student Success/Throughput, Particularly Those from Historically Disadvantaged
               Groups.

              1. Student Representative Council

The SRC as a statutory body has been democratically elected and is functioning and carrying its responsibilities. Student
governance remains a site of democratic contestation and this culture has been maturing over time. The Policy Framework on
Strategic Engagements with the SRC has been developed and approved by Council to nurture and deepen the democratic
governance, practices, and protocols associated with the SRC exercising its assigned roles and responsibilities. Revisions to
the SRC Constitution are ongoing to support the democratisation objectives of student governance, for example, the 50%
women representation in the SRC. The deepening of a culture of dialogue, engagement, and vibrant participation of students
in student life activities is ongoing work and requires repetition, as students are always in transition owing to their limited life
            cycle at university.

              2. Co-Curricular Student Leadership Programmes

The student leadership development aspect of student life continues to be implemented through two flagship programmes,
namely Beyond the Classroom (BtC) and Leaders for Change (LFC) (see Table 13). The other flagship programme aimed at
sculpting leaders for society is the Annual Mandela Youth Development Convention. Student participation in these programmes
has been growing over the period under review.
