Syllabus

PURPOSE
To introduce students to the broader environmental issues, including environmental assessments, environmental economics and environmental legislation.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
After the completion of this module, the learner should be able to:

  • understand the most important environmental issues;
  • appreciate the relationship between engineering and the environment;
  • outline the environmental legislation and policy applicable in SA;
  • interpret and evaluate environmental assessments;
  • understand sustainable development and environmental economics;
  • apply academic writing skills.

  • Environmental problems.
  • Environmental ethics.
  • Climate change.

Responses to Environmental Issues:

  • Environmental legislation.
  • IEM theory.
  • Environmental impact assessments.
  • Other IEM tools.

Sustainable Development:
