Geographical origin of students
The Student Recruitment Section has played a significant role in establishing and fostering relationships with the various
provincial Department of Education offices as well as other non-governmental role-players, particularly in rural areas. A formal
partnership established between Nelson Mandela University and the Cala Community through the Ikamvehlihle Development
Trust (known as “The road to Cala” project) forms part of an institutional Memorandum of Understanding between the University
and schools within the Cala Community located in the rural Chris Hani District Municipality. The expansion of the University’s
footprint beyond the borders of the Eastern Cape into other provinces is indicative of the success of the interventions used to
diversify our student profile.
