              GOAL 9

ENSURE ETHICAL LEADERSHIP AND ACCOUNTABILITY THROUGH IMPROVED
EFFECTIVENESS OF GOVERNANCE STRUCTURES, INCLUDING COUNCIL,
INSTITUTIONAL FORUM, SENATE, STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES COUNCIL,
              AND THE STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL.

while also repurposing existing infrastructure to support
                1. Reviewed Institutional Policies
more blended approaches to learning, teaching and
ways of working. A multi-faceted Infrastructure Strategy
In 2021 Council approved the Vision 2030 Strategy During was developed to respond to these imperatives and to
the period under review, new policies, as well as revisions contribute to long-term sustainability
to existing policies, were approved by Council. The list
of policies is reflected in the University’s 2021 Integrated
              Annual Report.
                2. Risk and Ethics Advisory

The Institutional Events Register reflects strategic risks
and opportunities identified and assessed. These risks
and opportunities may impact the ability of the University
to achieve its Strategic Priorities. The transitional, high-
level Vision 2030 strategic framework formed the point
of departure in identifying the key institutional risks
and opportunities confronting the University, which are
presented at the Audit and Risk Committee on a quarterly
basis. Various training opportunities were provided to the
risk champions identified across all MANCO portfolios.
                3. Strengthen Information and
                     Communication Technology
                     Governance Processes

              The University’s Digital Transformation strategy
development process, co-convened by the DVCs for
Learning and Teaching and People and Operations, was
formally launched in October 2021 at a special EMANCO.

In October, ICT Services provided the Information and
Communication Technology Committee with an update
on the implementation of the Information Security Annual
Plan of Operations. The update highlighted the lack of an
official patch management procedure which was identified
              as a risk requiring amelioration.

The sixth cycle of DHET Infrastructure Efficiency Grant
funding prioritised the use of digital platforms and tools
